Origin Story

It was in 1947s Batavia that the first-ever Pontillo's Pizza was opened.

Even though at the time pizza was a novelty item for most Americans, Italian Americans already knew, and they knew it very well. For them, pizza wasn't this new tomato pie, it was a traditional dish from across the Atlantic that they've been eating for centuries. This gave them quite an upper hand.

Americans enjoyed it, but American Italians knew how to make it. Leaning on this knowledge and the passion for sharing amazing cuisine with their neighbors, the Pontillo family got to work.

Even though the first restaurant was in Batavia, five years later Pontillo's Pizza opened up in Rochester, NY. As fate would have it, this is where the restaurant would make its home, develop its history, and grow deep roots, encasing the whole New York community in them for years to come.

Pizza Culture

When it comes to pizza, Pontillo's is widely known as having "the best pizza in Western New York". This title didn't appear out of thin air and it definitely isn't undeserved. The family-owned chain actually got it by working hard for almost a century, serving incredible recipes, and being an overall staple when it comes to pizza in New York.
