Origin story
The first Sarpino’s pizza joint was opened in 2001, by founder Gerry Koutougos in Victoria, British Columbia. Gerry was inspired by Italian cuisine after visiting a region in Italy, Calabria in 1999.
He even named the restaurant after a local restaurant owner, a woman named Sarpina. Gerry took the simple Italian recipes and tried recreating them using fresh ingredients, herbs, and spices.
In 2002, Sarpino’s expanded to Singapore where the pizzeria’s headquarters is located today.
One year later, in 2003 the first US location was opened, in Phoenix, Arizona. After a year there were 20 new Sarpino’s locations in the US. Since 2005, the US restaurants operate by the name Sarpino’s USA with a headquarters in the Chicago suburb of Lincolnshire, Illinois.
Today, Sarpino’s expanded throughout numerous franchises, getting closer to the hungry pizza lovers countrywide and across the world.
