Find Local Pizza in Fishers, Indiana

Fisher was once just an area of unproductive bare land on the banks of the White River in Indiana owned by one settler. That settler, Salathiel Fisher, decided to sell parcels of his property rather than trying to continue farming the barren ground, and the town of Fishers gradually started to form. It was hoped that after the railroad reached the new community the settlers would arrive in droves, but they didn't. Fishers needed to wait until the mid-1960s before settlers began to arrive in the town in any number. When good road and rail connections to Indianapolis were completed, Fishers developed into a commuter town and although little industry was attracted to relocate there, the population grew to reach forty thousand. The population continued to grow and opening restaurants there became a very viable proposition. A number of the new hospitality businesses gracing the streets of Fishers were Italian-owned pizzerias with pizza on their menus.

Fishers in Indiana is known for deep-dish pizza

Many of the Italian migrants who moved to Fishers from Indianapolis had already journeyed south to relocate there from Chicago. With them, they brought the skills required for baking Chicago-style pizza, but decided to add a dash of their own ingenuity to the process. While Fishers is known for deep dish pizzas they're not exactly the same as the one which originated in the Windy City. While many of the pizzerias in Fishers favor baking their dough in metal pans, they're more akin to Greek-style pizzas than they are the tomato pies of Chicago. They contain a regular amount of sauce and are topped with a generous helping of cheese as well as containing various other topping ingredients the same as you'd find on a thick crust pizza. All in all, eating a deep dish pizza in Fishers will be a flavorsome and satisfying experience you'll find yourself repeating frequently.

Lawrence

You can make a day out educational as well as recreational if you take the ten-mile drive from Fishers to Lawrence. Lawrence is where you'll find the Fort Harrison State Park which is over 1500 acres of open countryside where there's a well-preserved historic civilian training camp and the Museum of 20th Century Warfare to explore. The park is great whatever season of the year you go and has miles of trails perfect for hiking and cycling as well as for winter sports, plus there's fishing and canoeing opportunities on Fall Creek. After you've had a fantastic day there, head back into Lawrence for a pizza at Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza on Otis Avenue.

Noblesville

Noblesville is a fifteen minute drive north of Fishers and a city that is surrounded on all sides by golf courses. If swinging a club isn't what rocks your boat, drive through and head for Morse Park instead. Morse Park is only a few acres of green, but it’s an area that includes Morse Lake, a reservoir with a great beach. There's plenty of boating and fishing as well as many hiking trails around the lake shores. For the extra active there's an eighteen-hole disc golf course, a volleyball court, and a gaga ball pit. When you're all played out, go to Pizza By The Harbour on Hague Road for a pie.

Sheridan

Sheridan is a rural town around twenty miles north-west of Fishers and a spot to head for if you want to get on the Monon Trail for a long session of cycling. The Monon Trail is a disused rail line running through Indiana starting in Indianapolis and ending in Sheridan. The trail has been paved and winds for about twenty miles through the countryside. The trail crosses over creeks and rivers as well as through woodlands and there are lots of points of interest to stop off at along the way. One thing the trail is lacking is eateries, so have lunch at Jan's Village Pizza on South Main Street before you set off.
