Introducing new food to the residents of a rural town in Kentucky was not easy. Any new dish had to compete with the comfort food favorites of the time which were fried chicken and blueberry pie. Knowing that thick crust pizza is something no one could resist, so that's the type of pizza the new restaurant owners decided to serve. The residents of Florence soon got a taste for it so Florence is now known, not just for fried chicken, but for thick crust pizza too. Thick crust is the traditional type of pizza that has nourished generations of Italians and now feeds millions of people on a regular basis in the States too. Consisting of nothing more than a base of bread dough slathered in tomato sauce and sprinkled with cheese, it's a satisfying eat. Pizza is great in whatever form you eat it, but thick crust is one of the best.
There's a pizzeria over on Houston Road called Cici's Pizza which is the one you should call if you want to order in the best delivery pizza in Florence. They are superb at putting together pizzas in a short space of time and getting them to you as fast as they possibly can. Maintaining a good and reputable service is what makes this pizzeria tick Cici's Pizza is housed in a modern premises in the Turfway Commons that's trendily decorated in bright colors which contrast well with the dark wood furnishings. Their pizza menu is a complete offering of just about every pizza combination under the sun. If you can think of something that's not on it, they'll fix that for you too. The best of the pre-created combinations is the Spinach Alfredo or the Supreme, both of which will leave you saying – that was absolutely kicking.
When you've been wandering around Florence exploring what the town has to offer, which isn't much, if you're hungry, you won't have far to go to find the best take-out pizza in Florence. No matter which end of Main Street you're on, you're close to Tom's Papa Dino's Pizza and that's exactly the pizzeria you need to aim for. If you can't locate it just ask anyone for directions. All the locals know where this pizzeria is as it’s been there, in the same spot, for sixty years. Tom's Papa Dino's is the sort of joint the locals would prefer to keep to themselves, but now with the existence of the internet and social media, they're out of luck. It's a homely premises you'll be walking into which has a beer patio where you can sip and chill while waiting for your pie to come out of the oven. Go for a Papa's Meat Topper and you'll have to fight your way out to avoid having to share a slice.
It's perfectly understandable you feel the need to visit a big city occasionally when you're living in Florence. Luck would have it that Cincinnati is just a twenty-five-minute drive north of Florence on the I-75. Believe it, your entertainment options get a lot better the moment you cross the Ohio River and leave Kentucky behind. Potter around the Botanical Gardens, visit the Cincinnati Zoo or the Taft Museum of Art. The Cincinnati History Museum is also a fascinating place to visit as is the National Underground. If you just want to let off steam by having a good scream, hit the rides in the Coney Island Park before you go for a slice of pie at Adriatico's on West McMillan Street.
You might think there's not much reason to drive the twenty or so miles from Florence to Petersburg as there's about as much there as there is in Florence. If you're a horror movie fan or just like to get creeped out for the fun of it, it's surprising you haven't made the trip to Sandyland Acres already. Sandyland Acres is a haunted barn where you can take a haunted hayride. That on a superficial level may sound quite tame, but it's not. Sandland Acres has won plenty of awards for scaring people stupid. After you've finished shaking, get as far away as quickly as possible, then stop off at Combs Pizza in Aurora and recover a bit more over a pie.
If you've got nothing better to do than waste half a tank full of gas, head south for thirty miles down the I-75 and you'll come to Williamstown. There is one attraction and one attraction only in this mini city and that's a life-size Noah's Ark. The Ark Encounter isn't a zoo, but an adventure theme park with a biblical theme. At the ark, you can roam around three floors of interactive exhibits and time warp back to Noah's day by using the latest technology. After you return to the modern world, you'll find you can get a great pizza from Snappy Tomato Pizza in nearby Dry Ridge.
