The capital of New Hampshire, Concord is situated on the Merrimack River. It is not your typical state capital, in that it is a fairly quaint and compact city with a distinct small-town community vibe. As of the 2010 census, Concord had a population of 42, 695. Concord is a city with a rich heritage and a long history. It has been inhabited for thousands of years and was once home to the Abenaki people known as the Pennacook. After the arrival of the colonists, the area was granted the Pennacook Plantation in 1725 and was settled in 1727. The city was first known as Rumford, but this was changed in 1765 to Concord. In the 19th century, the area became synonymous with carriage making, with Concord Coaches being a world-famous brand at the time. Plus, Concord was the hometown of President Franklin Pierce; the 14th president of the US. Although not particularly well known as a city for pizza, there is a varied selection of pizzerias, restaurants, and takeout serving up America’s favorite food.

If you are looking for the best pizza in Concord, our local Slice partners are on hand to help. There is a wide variety of types of pies available, but it is the Neapolitan pizza that is popular here. In fact, there are several spots throughout the city that serve up this traditional and authentic all-Italian pie. With its super thin base, crispy crust, and fresh simple toppings, Neapolitan pizza is one of the world’s favorite types, and it is not very difficult to see why. Also known as pizza Napoletana or Naples-style pizza, this type of pizza is traditionally minimally topped. This is because it has a super-thin base that is not able to hold the generous toppings of the deep pan or thick crust. It is then cooked in a piping hot oven at 600-1000 degrees Fahrenheit; resulting in a light flavor that does not overwhelm. Officially, there are only three variants of the Neapolitan, as protected with UNESCO Cultural Heritage status. However, many restaurants use the Neapolitan-style base for their inspired specialty pies.
