Find Local Pizza in Oakdale, Pennsylvania

Oakdale was first settled as a farming community sometime in the late 1700s. Life on the farms was hard and the small community that was formed as a basis for the town attracted few settlers. The low price of land and the rural isolation of Oakdale did attract some industrial companies to open their factories in the town's outlying area at the beginning of the 20th century. One, a chemical factory, employed several hundred people. Some of those employees continued to live in the Pittsburgh suburbs and commute the few miles to their job while others relocated to Oakdale. It still took two decades for the town's population to increase in size from the recorded five hundred or so inhabitants in the 1880 population census to one thousand in 1900. Not everyone wants to live in an industrial city like Pittsburgh or set up business there. Some Italians prefer to live in a quiet, country town and those are the ones who moved to Oakdale to open their pizzerias.
