Origin Story

The story behind Blackjack Pizza is one of hard work, perseverance, and ultimate creativity. Fun to read, yet difficult when it was unfolding, it's a story with a happy ending and a really important lesson behind it - we can all change the world.

In 1980s Colorado, pizza wasn't well dispersed. There was only one pizza delivery restaurant that basically had a hold on the pizza game. It was Vince Schmul, a Colorado University graduate that decided to change the game, both literally and figuratively!

Before, he was a delivery driver for the big pizza chain in town, but as of 1983, he was the proud owner of Blackjack Pizza. Opened with the intention to provide an alternative, the pizzeria promoted itself with the slogan "Finally, there's a new game in town".

Over the years, Blackjack Pizza & Salads grew from one Colorado storefront to tens of locations across the US. Still standing strong on the foundation Vince set all those years ago, Blackjack Pizza is a true staple among independent (and otherwise) pizza chains in America.

Pizza Culture

Pizza making was always front and center for Vince and Blackjack Pizza. That's why it was always so important to find the right recipes, ingredients, and baking methods.
