Pizza is one of the most delicious and versatile foods in the world. It's no wonder it is so popular!
You can have a pizza with a variety of toppings. From pepperoni and mozzarella to pineapple, seafood, and whatever else you can think of.
Not only that, but your pie can come with a different type of crust. New York is famous for its hand-tossed thin-crust slices, whereas Chicago is home to the deep-dish pizza.
Speaking of deep-dish pies, as if they could get any better, Chicago also brings us the stuffed pizza! That's precisely our topic for today.
Just like its deep-dish counterpart, stuffed pizza is made in a pan and it comes with tomato sauce and cheese.
However, stuffed pies are even deeper and have more cheese. Plus, a big difference is the additional layer of dough that goes on top.
We also need to mention the stuffed crust pizza. This one features mozzarella cheese within the edges of the crust.
Pizza was introduced to America when many Italians immigrated here at the turn of the 20th century.
The first pizzeria was opened in New York in 1905. Today, the city's culture is tied to the famous thin pizza by the slice.
Of course, in the meantime, this wonderful dish spread through the rest of the States. Some cities also got i.e. invented their own signature pizza styles.
One of those places is Chicago. Famous for its deep dish pies, Chi-town also has two other popular options. One of them is stuffed pizza.
The pizzeria that came up with this unique pie was Nancy's Pizza. It was founded by Nancy and Rocco Palese.
They were initially baking thin-crust pizzas. However, later on, they took the advice to start making pan pies.
Rocco wanted to be original so he had his own take on pan pizza. Inspired by his mother's recipe for "scarciedda," he created the stuffed pizza.
Another Chicago pizzeria that specializes in this kind of pie is Giordano's. It was opened in 1974 by the two brothers Efren and Joseph Boglio. Today, they have over 60 locations.
Just like Nancy's, Efren and Joseph were also inspired by their mother's pizza recipe.
Their stuffed pizza has won numerous awards including "Best Pizza in the City" by Chicago Magazine.
Thanks to these historical pizza places, Chicago added another marvelous pie to its arsenal.
Needless to say, other pizzerias followed suit, and stuffed pies were being sold around the Windy City and beyond.
A serving size of 145g should contain around 360 calories. This includes about 15g of total fat, 39g of carbohydrates, and 16g of protein.
Given that Chicago is the home to this kind of pie, let's start there. We recommend Villa Palermo on W Devon Ave. They're open every day but Tuesday and also offer pickup and delivery via Slice.
And if you're in Brooklyn, we suggest visiting Mike's Pizza on Bedford Avenue. This popular pizzeria is open every day of the week and they offer takeout and delivery as well. You can simply order through Slice.
Stuffed pizza was excellent!!!
