Origin Story

The first Shield's Restaurant Bar Pizzeria was opened way back in 1937. Its location was in Detroit, on Shields Street to be exact. A bit later, in 1946, they started to serve food, and of course, pizzas were included on the menu.

Over the years, the brand's success and recognition grew, and in 1974, Deano Moraitis bought the business. He was in charge for a period of time, but in 1992, his nephews took over. Their names are Paul and Peter Andoni, and they're still our owners.

Paul and Peter have a huge experience in the restaurant industry, as well as valuable marketing education. They've made sure that we still use the old sauce and dough recipes that made the Shield's name famous. Thus, our legacy keeps growing, and we're proud winners of many awards for "Best pizza in Detroit" and such.

We could also say that Shield's Restaurant Bar Pizzeria is a true landmark of Detroit. And there are many popular politicians, athletes, and celebrities who are part of our loyal customers.

Pizza Culture

There are a number of flavorsome pies on the Shield's Restaurant Bar Pizzeria menu. For a start, you can try our square or round cheese pizza, or even create yours with the toppings you like.

In addition, we serve multiple specialty combinations, also available in a round or square version. Here, we have to mention our super popular BBQ Chicken pizza. We make it with our own barbecue sauce, chicken, brick & cheddar cheese, and red onions.

What's more, we got all the classics such as our Margherita, Meat Lovers, and Vegetarian pie. Or you can get something like our Super or Gold Medal pizza. The former comes with pepperoni, brick cheese, fresh mushrooms, onions, green peppers, ham, and our unique pizza sauce.
