In order to understand the blueberry muffin, we have to take a look at the history of the muffin itself.
To make a long story short, we'll just say that muffins became a thing in about the 18th century in England. They were essentially created as a tea time snack and started selling in the streets almost immediately after their invention.
Soon after, thanks to immigration, the recipe came to the US. Gradually people started experimenting with the dish and adding their own little flavors. The purpose of the muffin changed as well, given that tea time isn't really a thing in the US. Instead, the muffin, and especially the blueberry one, became a breakfast food instead!
Usually, the blueberry muffin recipe calls for muffin batter, fresh or frozen blueberries, and a muffin pan or muffin cups.
When the muffin batter is in question, the preparation process is fairly simple. All your chef has to do is combine all purpose flour, granulated sugar or brown sugar, baking powder, eggs, and milk into a large bowl.
Once the ingredients are mixed together, fresh or frozen blueberries are added into the batter. That's where the magic happens! Once everything is nicely combined, the size of the muffins is determined.
If you chef is prepping mini muffins, they'll go for smaller muffin cups or a muffin tin. If they're looking to make regular-sized muffins however, they'll typically go for muffin cups.
Once the size is chosen, the batter is poured in. Then, the muffins go in a preheated oven for about 30 minutes. When done, they're left to cool to room temperature and then, they're ready to be enjoyed!
However, we'd like to emphasize that this is just one way to make a blueberry muffin! In reality, the batter is so diverse, it can be customized and changed up to fit your taste. These muffins can be vegan or vegetarian, they can be diet-friendly, and more.
Compared to their chocolate counterparts, blueberry muffins are actually quite a healthy breakfast option. Filled with antioxidants and vitamin C because of the berries, they're an excellent breakfast and snack!
However, they can be calorie-heavy, so if you're looking for a fitter version, stick with sugar and butter substitutes. A leaner flour would also work wonders, so just talk to your server about it!
